Aikido (the way of harmonizing the energy of the universe) is first and foremost a martial art but it is also much more.
At its most basic level Aikido is a system of throwing, joint-locking, striking and pinning techniques, coupled with training in the use of sword (bokken), staff (jo) and knife (tanto) techniques. Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba in the early twentieth century and has now grown to be one of the world’s most popular martial arts. It places emphasis on practical efficiency, and is the style used to train women and anti-riot teams of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Size, weight, age and physical strength play only a small role in Aikido, also making it a uniquely suited option for women, children and older students. |
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art. It emphasizes head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. Taekwondo puts strong emphasis on speed and agility, often advocating a relax/strike principle. This involves relaxing the body between blocks, kicks and strikes, and only tensing the muscles during a technique to commit as much as possible to a strike. Taekwondo includes Kyorugi (sparring), Poomsae (patterns/forms), demonstration, and self-defense techniques.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art whose central theme is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit. It prides itself in being known as the “gentle art”, allowing a smaller, weaker person to use leverage and submissions (chokes, locks) to defend himself against a bigger opponent.
With origins in Judo and Japanese Jujutsu, it has since been adapted and modified by Carlos Gracie and his family to become the martial art it is today. The popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has been on a steady rise over the years, thanks to the growing audience of MMA. Typical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu jargon such as “rear naked choke”, “armbar” and “guard” have even become common vocabulary even among non-practitioners. |
Jeet Kune Do is a hybrid martial art system and philosophy created by the late great martial artist Bruce Lee. In English, it means "The Way Of The Intercepting Fist", emphasizing directness, efficiency and simplicity. In essence, minimal effort with maximum effect. The Chinese characters on his logo signifies the following: "Using no way as way, Having no limitation as limitation".
Following Daniel Inosanto's JKD method, classes are taught on Jun Fan Kung Fu/Kickboxing and Inosanto Kali. For the JKD practitioner, it is a journey of self knowledge and self discovery of oneself. |

Kali is the national sport and martial art of the Philippines which emphasizes weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons as well as "open hand" (techniques without weapons). This weapon-based training is based mainly on Pekiti Tirsia Kali (PTK). PTK utilizes mainly short staff and knifes as for combat and students are taught how to use them individually and simultaneously.
Kali is also used by the American Government to train their Navy Seal Team, FBI and DEA for knife combat skills. |

Wing Chun is a martial art of Chinese origin and it’s known for its close combat style and real life applicability.
Wing Chun has an ideology of simultaneous defending and attacking. The aspects of attacking itself is noticeably different from most martial arts as the aim to defeat an opponent is achieved by causing internal damage with various attacks done at high speed, rather than one big blow to the opponent. Wing Chun has the capability to open up the mind-set of an experienced practitioner of a different martial art that combat does not have to include complicated and extremely powerful techniques to overcome an opponent. Most of the time in training, practitioners will be paired up to get used to sensing hand movements of the opponent using sight, sense of hearing and touch. |
